Training workshop on preventive conservation held in Teheran

The first International Training Workshop on the Museum Environment and Preventive Conservation is being held in Tehran from 8 to 12 January 2017. It brings together 34 museum professionals from Iran, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, and Turkey.

This workshop is being organized by the Research Center for Conservation of Cultural Relics (RCCCR) and ICOM-Iran.   Held at the National Museum of Iran, it is the first of a series of workshops whose goal is to cover the many different aspects of conservation.

The three-day introduction to preventive conservation was led by ICCROM, thanks to the collaboration of Gaël de Guichen, Special Advisor to ICCROM’s Director-General, and Vesna Zivkovic, Head of the Centre for Preventive Conservation, Central Conservation Institute, Serbia. All together, the participating museums represent 533,127 objects and receive 2,365,638 visitors per year.

The objective of this initiative is to strengthen collaboration in the region and build a professional network able to ensure protection of heritage collections.

At the inaugural session, Mr Mohammad Hassan Talebian, Deputy Chief of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization and ICCROM Council Member, read the welcome message for the participants sent by Dr Stefano de Caro, ICCROM’s Director-General.
